The girls were in good spirits this morning. As soon as they got up they got out their Barbies for a play session in the living room.
They were excited for camp and talkative at breakfast. Today they did swimming, arts and crafts, and gymnastics. They returned home proudly bearing two piggybanks which they had painted and decorated and told us that we need to give them "plata" (change) to fill them up! We are considering a plata-for-worksheets scheme to motivate them for math and reading practice . . . :)
After lunch, Fer asked if we could do her hair. She had asked for ponytail elastics in the States and we brought them with us. With a great deal of focus and concentration, she put little ponytails into first her hair and then Wendy's in what they call a "corona" -- a crown. They were very happy and even were willing to stand for a picture!
Wendy took this one of us:
We did about an hour of schoolwork with the girls -- mainly math. The math workbooks are divided into units by color. Wendy worked for about 30 minutes and was very proud that she has finished the yellow, green and blue pages! Fer's book is a lot harder so she is still working on yellow, but plugging away at it. After doing some math, Wendy and I played some cards while Fer read some mini-books aloud to Chris. She is so diligent and earnest, it is amazing to watch.
After an afternoon snack of hot chocolate and a roll, Chris and the girls played some computer games from the Maya and Miguel website. We decided to go for a walk to be sure we can find the train station on Sunday -- there is a tourist train that travels out of Bogota to Zipaquira (home of the Salt Cathedral) and back, stopping at some towns along the way. At one town everyone gets off for lunch, and then back on the train to head home. It's a full day, and hopefully the girls will enjoy it. We bought our tickets to be sure we have places, and it was a good walk, about 25 mins each way.
After dinner, we read books and then put on Kitty -- the girls are watching now and should be asleep very soon. They both seem tired! It was a good day.
