Yankees Game -- First MLB game

We took the girls to a Yankees game last night. It was their first major league ballgame, and my first time in the new Yankee Stadium. They really enjoyed it -- and the Yankees were up 11 to 4 when we left. They do keep the screens and music going, though sadly it feels like one long advertisement. "Welcome, Yankees fans, it's time for . . .The Subway Sandwich Great Subway Race! or The Aetna Insurance Seat Upgrade! or The Crest Toothpaste Name that Baby Bomber! or The Poland Spring Who Hit That Homer Contest!" They did nothing for pure fun, everything was attached to a sponsor's name. Chris pointed out that likely with all the money spent on the stadium, it's a financial necessity, but still. Gone are the days where the game itself is the main focus.

August Vacation in Tivoli

We had a really fun few days in Tivoli with my fam. Welcome home Christine, Matt and Jack, who arrived in Tivoli on August 20 from Oakland! I am sad that I didn't bring my camera to the wonderful shared birthday dinner for me and Christine of the "original 5" at the Madalin Hotel -- it was truly a special evening filled with so much love. I also didn't get pics of the birthday celebration with the kids the next day, complete with yummy carrot cupcakes! Oh well, can't blog everything. I picked my camera back up to memorialize our outing to the movies and also the Dutchess County Fair.

Stay-cation IV: Museum of Natural History

We met Patricia and Jessica and Jillian in Manhattan for an afternoon at the Museum of Natural History, one of my favorites since childhood. I never go without thinking of all the time I spent there with my dad visiting our favorite exhibits. This time we saw the African animals, the Hall of Ocean Life, and finished up at the Rose Center for Earth and Space. We also saw an IMAX movie about the fixing of the Hubble telescope which was pretty amazing.

Stay-cation III: Bronx Zoo

We joined the Bronx Zoo and had a really fun first visit checking out all the attractions. We rode the tram, visited Congo Gorilla Forest, took a ride on the carousel and on the Wild Asia monorail, and ended up with the sea lion feeding! The girls love animals, and a great time was had by all.
