Children's Mass, Lunch in Usquen, Super Bowl Sunday!

We went again to the children's Mass at Cristo Rey this morning -- Fer and Wendy really wanted to get there early and sit on the rug at the front, so we did. The music was wonderful and I was especially happy to hear one song which I have loved from going to Mass at St. Angela's near KIPP and at St. Peter's in Yonkers, "Pescador de Hombres." (Fisher of Men) It is just beautiful, and the chorus really spoke to me this morning: "Senor, me has mirado en los ojos, sonriendo has dicho mi nombre. En la arena, he dajado mi barca, junto a ti, buscare otro mar." (Lord, you looked in my eyes and smiling spoke my name. I have left my boat behind in the sand, and close to you I will seek other seas.). It felt like a response to our situation of all of us having to leave behind the familiar and seek the new, each in our own way . . . and it is such a comfort and a strength to believe that God is with us in our endeavors.

After we got back from church, we went to Usaquen (a neighborhood of Bogota) with Manuel and Esperanza and Tomas. We walked a bit through the outdoor market and then went to lunch at the Tienda de Cafe, recommended by our friend Monique. The food was great and even better, they had a "Zona Infantil", a kids area, where the girls had time to do arts and crafts. At the end, they got a gift bag which had candy, crayons, and best of all, toy cell phones! So right now they are running around the hotel "calling" each other. And we are collapsed on the bed recovering from the strong sangria which they served with our lunch!

We have been trying to explain the Super Bowl to the girls and while we are really really sad to miss the annual gathering with our friends Mark and Laura and their daughters, we are trying for a weak approximation here. We bought chips and soda and we will bet on each quarter of the game as we do in the States. The girls don't totally get how it will work, but the promise of a possible 400 pesos per quarter as well as a gaseosa and bag of chips for each person is too much to pass up, so they are in! Hopefully we will be able to get the game down here. We'll keep you posted!

It's about 20 cents -- 2,000 pesos is 1 dollar. So we're not into the big money!!
