Thanksgiving Vacation

Following the sighting of the Latteris at the airport, we swung into a week "off" for us and a few days of school for Wendy and Fer, followed by celebrating Thanksgiving in Newfield and then post-Thanksgiving in Tivoli. We used the Monday off to get in some doctors' appointments for Fer and Wendy, Tuesday was mainly paperwork but we did sneak out for lunch and a movie which felt decadent (yes, we are nerds), and then Wednesday we packed up and headed upstate to visit Chris's family for Thanksgiving. We had a great Thanksgiving visit with the whole clan. It was wonderful for Fer and Wendy to spend time with Grandpa Jack and Grandma Deb (who cooked a delicious traditional dinner, with an assist for the mac and cheese from Terrill!) and with the rest of the family on Chris's side. We even got the girls out for ice skating for the first time -- thanks to Jack for spearheading that outing and Brian for helping the girls get around the ice! We then headed back to Tivoli on Saturday for a Saturday evening get-together with my side plus friends.

All the events were lovely, the only difficulty during the week was that Wendy was not in a great place for much of the time. We're not sure if it was feelings about seeing her siblings, or the number of hours of car travel (about 10 total), or the relatively unscheduled nature of vacation, or maybe all of that combined, but after probably 2 months of her being generally happy and connected to us most of the time, it was hard to come up against some of the behaviors we had struggled with in the past. The good news is that she did really recover well once school started again on Monday. She and Fer both love school (thank you God) -- they enjoy their friends and like their teachers and seem generally engaged in what they are learning. So for her, back to school was a good thing, and seemed to put her back on an even keel. It's been a much better week so far.
