Sunday, December 6

We had a great day today -- very busy, but a lot of fun. The girls again came in to get us rather earlier than we might have liked: 6:15 a.m.! Better than yesterday, but still. We managed to doze til 7, then time to get up and start the day. We had breakfast and got ready, then went to the 9 a.m. Mass in Spanish at St. Peter's in Yonkers. The girls were great -- I'm sure the fact that they could understand contributed to their ability to focus! When we got back I did some cooking and I had my sous-chefs to help:

Then in the afternoon we went out to Brownsville in Brooklyn for an event at the Riverdale Osborne housing development -- my dad was one of the partners for the development and there was a ceremony honoring him and the other partners who worked so hard to rehabilitate and renovate to provide affordable and safe housing for the tenants. The buildings and grounds looked great and we were so proud!!

On our way home we went to Target and the girls picked out the tree they wanted! Then Gigi and Grandad came over to spend some time and to get oriented for their times with the girls in the next few weeks. The girls are really connected to them already which is so great. Gigi and I took the girls downstairs for a swim and then we all had dinner together. Afterwards, Chris and Grandad worked hard to set up the new tree:

The girls were very excited to start decorating,

but a little tired by the time they had finished hanging up all those ornaments!

After my parents went home, it was time for Kitty then bed -- so far they have been ready for bed by 8 this time around, which is nice for us except for the early morning wakeup on the weekend! Tomorrow we will all go to KIPP for the day. It should be a lot of fun to introduce the girls to my students and for them to see the other teachers again.
